John Willis
Finches, Hookbills, Softbills and Budgerigars
John was born and raised in Picton, Ontario. His father, Bill, an avid fancier
introduced him to birds and showing at an early age. Moving to BC in the mid
60's, John joined the British Columbia Avicultural Society and raised various
canaries, hookbills, finches, and budgerigars, at one time keeping some 600
birds. A strong supporter of shows, he has exhibited at Las Vegas, Longbeach,
and Seattle, in the U.S. as well as numerous shows in Alberta and BC winning
numerous major awards. One major highlight was winning Best In Show at Western
Budgerigar Association, a show with over 300 entries, with an owner bred hen in
1985.
John is a past show manager, band secretary, treasurer, bulletin editor, and
director of several bird clubs. As a director and judge with the AACC he helped
write the original AACC Show Manual and credits Earl Hamm, Jim Marshall, and
Carl Slavin as being most influential throughout the years.
John has judged at Windsor, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Kelowna,
Victoria, Nanaimo, Langley, and other shows around the lower mainland area of
BC. John presently lives in Victoria (Saanich), BC. His other interests include
Sprint Car racing, a 67 Buick, his motorhome...and 75 birds.
